Fundamentals of portraiture with Nina Ruminska


During this 12-hour course the participants will learn to paint a portrait in oil from a life model.
Taught by classically trained artist Nina Ruminska. Suitable for all levels. This course would also be useful to students attend third level art education. Teaching will be tailored to participant’s individual needs.
During the course participants will learn to
  • Construct a head using classical proportions
  • Prepare the initial sketch from life model
  • Compose the portrait on canvas
  • Mix skin tones using limited palette of colours
  • Establish large colour masses
  • Build up the form
  • Develop features of the face and add final touches.
The course will focus on how to understand and simplify the form, navigate through the planes of the head and learn about colour temperature.
Suitable for all levels
Dates Saturday 1st October & Sunday 2nd October
Time: 10am – 5pm (incl 1 hr lunch break)
Duration: 12hrs over 2 days
A list of materials needed will be supplied to each students upon booking. Kits which include paints and canvas may be purchased with the class at a discounted rate. All students will be given a 10% discount coupon to use in shop and online.
