Bodice Block Drafting Workshop – Saturday 28th June

Learn how to draft your own bodice block, tailored to your measurements.

This personal block can then be used to design your own tops or dresses or can help you with fit adjustments on commercial patterns. This workshop will also give you a better understanding of commercial patterns and how they are created. We will sew a toile of your block after completing it to ensure it has the correct fit and talk through adjustments you can make to create your own patterns.

Pattern paper, calico and worksheets will be provided.

Our tutor Sharlene Oldroyd @sosewdressmaking has extensive experience with fitting patterns and will show you through demonstrations how she resolves fit issues in trouser.

Tea or coffee will be provided, we ask everyone to bring their own mug with a lid.

This workshop is aimed at those who have experience sewing and have a thorough understanding of how patterns are put together, especially tops.

By the end of the course you will

• understand how to measuring yourself
• be able to draft a bodice block to your measurements
• be able to compare your measurements to pattern measurements
• be able to compare your measurements to pattern paper pieces
• understand the purpose of a muslin/toile
• know when and adjustment is needed or will altering seam allowance be enough
• Altering darts, shoulders and sleeves.
• be able to make adjustment to your toille and be able to transfer them to your pattern.
• be able to use your new block to make different styles of tops or dresses.
